Fairtrade Fashionistas In Northallerton

FAIR trade fashion will take to the catwalk next month as students from Northallerton College put a world issue on a local stage, the special event will be in the Town Hall on Friday June 23.at 7.30pm.

Northallerton was recently awarded Fair Trade status and the students man a fair trade stall every week at college.

The fashion show will feature clothes by Traidcraft, People Tree and Gossypium showing it is possible to be the height of fashion but care about the environment.

The event will be a lot of fun, with great Fairtrade, organic cotton and hemp clothes on parade for all ages and for both men and women. The ticket price entitles you to a fair trade glass of wine or juice and fair trade party food. There will be live music and the Body Shop will be on hand with a free hand massage and their community traded make up and creams. There will also be a raffle with great prizes and a chocolate fountain.

Admission is £5 for adults, £3 for concessions with proceeds going to the Africa Well Project.

The event has the backing of Margaret Parks of the United Reform Church, Town Councillor John Blevins, Barkers, Bettys and the Mane Hair Salon.
Youth worker Emma Casson said: “Fair trade is the only way forward in terms of sustainable development. Everything else is highly polluting and exploitative.”
Traidcraft contact Veronica Piekosz added: “This will show people that fair trade isn’t fuddy duddy any more and you can wear it with pride.”
Tickets can be obtained from Northallerton College, the Body Shop and Mane hair salon. For more information contact Emma on (01609) 773340 ext 272.
